Matt Geraghty is a bassist, composer, music producer, and director of music documentaries filmed in Peru, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. His groundbreaking projects challenge stereotypes and advocate for gender equality in the music scene, earning him two Latin Grammy nominations. Recognized for his dedication to preserving diverse traditional cultures, Matt creates transformative social impact through his music.

Cross-Cultural Connections: Matt explores the world, participating in improvisation sessions and collaborating with local musicians. These experiences motivate him to launch initiatives that bring attention to deserving musicians who often go unnoticed.

Elevating Voices with Just Play: In 2013, Matt founded JUST PLAY, a project that has documented the music and stories of over 300 musicians from New York, New Orleans, Havana, San Juan, and Peru. JUST PLAY amplifies the voices of artists from the African Diaspora in the Americas, fostering collaborations between contemporary and traditional musicians in historical settings.

Global Music & Composition: With 10 albums and documentaries to his name, Matt has composed extensively and collaborated with renowned artists such as Paul Wertico of the Pat Metheny group and harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy. Notable projects include "Departures" featuring collaborations with prominent Polish singer Anna Maria Jopek, Grammy-winning pianist Gil Goldstein, guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, Russian pianist Misha Tsiganov, Armenian oud player Ara Dinkjian, and Grammy-winning American drummer Mark Walker.

Transcending Cultural Barriers: Breaking cultural barriers, Geraghty's music is evident in music documentaries produced in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Peru, and soon Brazil. His documentary work earned him a Latin Grammy nomination for the project "The Warrior Women of Afro-Peruvian Music," a powerful effort challenging racism through the universal language of music.

Afro-Andean Funk and "The Sacred Leaf": Through a documentary filmed in Peru, Matt Geraghty connected with Peruvian singer Araceli Poma, co-leader of the band Afro-Andean Funk. Their debut album, "The Sacred Leaf," has been praised for advocating for indigenous culture, women's rights, and preserving endangered native languages. This album received a Latin Grammy nomination in 2022.

SiriusXM Host: In 2023, Matt was a featured host SIRIUSXM during Hispanic Heritage Month, where his role as a bassist and music producer, creating social impact through his music and documentary work in Peru, was featured on the program ‘The Warrior Women of Afro-Peruvian Music’
